Description
Duplex APC for real two-way transmission
Unlike simplex jumpers, duplex LC connectors keep Tx and Rx fibers permanently paired, which is essential for:
-
OLT ↔ ONU connections
-
Backbone links between racks
-
Active optical equipment ports
In high-density panels, duplex APC jumpers also reduce polarity mistakes and speed up maintenance.
2.0mm — the right size for live networks
A PON or backbone jumper is constantly being handled.
It is plugged into OLT cards, routed through cable managers, and sometimes removed for testing.
That is why this model uses a 2.0mm jacket instead of 0.9mm pigtail fiber — it provides real strain relief without becoming stiff.
| Cable size | What it is good for |
|---|---|
| 0.9mm | Splicing inside trays |
| 2.0mm | Live patching & equipment ports |
| 3.0mm | Outdoor & heavy-duty links |
Optical behavior that PON networks require
APC polishing dramatically improves reflection performance compared with UPC.
| Optical characteristic | Typical level |
|---|---|
| Fiber | Single-mode 9/125 µm |
| End face | APC (8° angled) |
| Insertion loss | ≤ 0.30 dB |
| Return loss | ≥ 60 dB |
| Operating wavelengths | 1310 / 1490 / 1550 nm |
| Mating cycles | ≥ 1000 |
This return-loss level is critical for GPON, XG-PON, CATV overlay and long-haul single-mode links.
Designed for dense telecom frames
Even with APC geometry, the connector still uses the compact LC format, allowing twice the port density of SC connectors in the same rack space.
| Construction detail | What it does |
|---|---|
| LC duplex latch | Locks both fibers in correct alignment |
| 1.25mm ceramic ferrules | Maintain APC angle accuracy |
| Reinforced 2.0mm boots | Prevent fiber micro-bending |
| Precision APC polishing | Keeps reflections out of the laser |
Professional Q&A
Can LC APC duplex connect to LC UPC?
No. APC and UPC connectors must never be mated. The angled APC end face will be damaged and reflection will increase sharply.
Is duplex necessary for PON?
Yes. OLT and ONU ports require two-way transmission, and duplex LC keeps Tx and Rx correctly paired.
Why not use 3.0mm for PON patch cords?
3.0mm is used when cables are exposed to heavy pulling. For racks, OLT shelves and indoor frames, 2.0mm provides the best balance of flexibility and protection.
